Bloom Where You’re Planted
Your potential is within you, embedded in your personality, your genetics, your past experiences, and your surroundings. Just as a plant starts as a seed and grows to reach the sky and root in the earth, so can you stretch and grow into more of the person you want to be.
We are always in process—actively engaging in growth, stretching up to the sky and down to the earth, taking in all that helps us to blossom. Neuroscience has demonstrated that our brains are capable of growing new thought patterns, which can help us shift from unworkable patterns and plant ourselves more firmly in our own change process. Our insight is capable of deepening, and our emotions can be shaped so that we encourage our lovingkindness to grow and tame our reactivity so that our relationships become more enjoyable and sustaining.
Putting this metaphor to therapy, you are the plant and the gardener—I am simply an additional nutrient, or extra watering perhaps, that will help you reach great heights and tremendous depths.
Together, we will design a customized strategy to maximize your “bloom,” through learning to trust, support and believe in yourself, allowing you to grow and become rooted in peace and happiness. Building a strong relationship with the self is the common thread in every aspect of my approach to treatment and self-growth.
In individual counseling, you receive the space and intensity to help you discover what is blocking your growth and how to make the changes you want in your life. In my view, individual work is the cornerstone of treatment—even in relationship/couples’ counseling, we will sometimes split into individual sessions to help each of you deepen in personal development.
In parent coaching, working with or without your partner and child can open new areas of understanding and help you gain additional behavioral skills. And, working one-on-one to intercept and rewire unwanted neural patterns is essential when learning to manage anxiety and/or depression.
